The Company is not Insured or Licensed

This is the biggest red flag that there can be when it comes to a commercial roofing company. If the company does not have insurance, you should not use their services, no matter how inexpensive they may be. Insurance for a commercial roofing company is essential. It helps you ensure that your roof is protected if something does happen. It allows you to ensure that the workers are protected should they become injured while working on your roof, and it helps to make sure that everything is above board. If your roofing company is not insured, odds are they are not reputable, and they are trying to cut corners.

Licensing is also super important. If you are not using a licensed company, you have no leg to stand on if something goes wrong or if you need to make a complaint or worry about something that has happened. It can be difficult to make any sort of negative claim against a company without a license as they do not have any license to lose and do not have to report to any one person in particular.  

No References or Portfolio

It is also important that you can look at previous work. If you are dealing with a good company, you will be able to see what work they have done and look at any references they may have. The best way to gauge a company is to look at the work that they have done before your project.

Large Payments of Cash Only

Another red flag is that they require you to pay the entire amount upfront, they require you to pay a substantial down payment before the roof is done at all, or they only take cash. A reputable company is going to be able to allow you to make payments, to pay only a portion before the roof is done, and does allow you to use other forms of payment like insurance and credit cards if needed. A reputable company will be able to take all forms of payment, and it is not going to pressure you to pay with cash or any other form of payment that they can potentially hide. Paying all upfront is also a very big red flag, as this gives the roofer no reason to stay and complete the job because they have already gotten the money.

High-Pressure Sales Tactics

If you feel like you are being pressured, odds are you are talking to a company that is less than reputable. A reputable company is not going to try to pressure you to get a roof done, they are not going to try and upsell what you have chosen, and they are not going to make you feel like the clock is running out and you have to make a choice.
